The Esplanade

Street guide, Bognor Regis

The Esplanade is the seafront road running along the beach at Bognor Regis, stretching from the western end near Aldwick to the eastern end towards Felpham. The road provides the setting for the classic English seaside experience: shelters, benches, gardens, and views south across the English Channel. On clear days, the Isle of Wight is visible to the west. The Esplanade is the location of the town's war memorial clock tower and the site of the old pier. The road is flanked on its landward side by a mix of hotels, guest houses, flats, and residential properties, many converted from their original use as grand Victorian and Edwardian seafront houses. The promenade and beach are accessible along its full length, and the Esplanade is the focus of the town's summer activity, including the annual Birdman Rally held from the old pier site.
