High Street

Street guide, Bognor Regis

Bognor Regis High Street is the principal shopping street in the town centre, running roughly north to south between the station area and the seafront. The southern section is pedestrianised and lined with a mix of national retailers, independent shops, cafes, and charity shops. Buildings range from Victorian and Edwardian commercial frontages to twentieth-century infill, with upper floors often in better condition than the shopfronts below. The street has experienced the same pressures as most English seaside high streets, with vacancy rates fluctuating over recent decades. Market days bring additional activity, and there have been periodic efforts to improve the streetscape through planting, seating, and repaving. The pedestrianised section provides the main route from the shopping area to the beach and the Esplanade, and footfall increases noticeably during the summer months when visitors supplement the resident population.
