Craigweil Avenue

Street guide, Bognor Regis

Craigweil Avenue is a residential road in the Aldwick area, notable for its proximity to the site of Craigweil House. It was at Craigweil House that King George V stayed during his convalescence in 1929, an event that led directly to the town being granted the 'Regis' suffix by royal approval. The house itself was demolished in the 1930s and replaced by residential development, but the name endures in the avenue and in local memory. The street is lined with substantial detached houses, many dating from the inter-war period, set in generous plots with mature gardens. Craigweil Avenue is one of the more prestigious residential addresses in the Aldwick area, benefiting from proximity to the sea and the quiet character of this part of the coast. The seafront at Aldwick is a short walk south, and the area has a distinctly different atmosphere from the busier town centre.
