Town Centre

Pedestrianised shopping centre with the Regis Centre, Alexandra Theatre, Picturedrome, and direct walking access to the seafront.

Bognor Regis town centre is the commercial heart of the resort, built around a pedestrianised precinct and the High Street that connects it to the seafront. The main shopping area runs between London Road to the north and the Esplanade to the south, with the pedestrianised section of the High Street forming the spine. Familiar high street names sit alongside independent shops, charity shops, and cafes. The Regis Centre on Belmont Street is the town's principal entertainment and arts venue, housing a cinema, theatre space, and the Alexandra Theatre, which stages a programme of live performances throughout the year. The Picturedrome on Canada Grove, a restored early cinema building, adds a second cultural venue to the town centre. Bedford Street, Queensway, and Station Road branch off the main shopping axis. The architecture is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian commercial frontages, inter-war rebuilds, and later twentieth-century redevelopment. Some of the older buildings retain their original upper-storey detail even where the ground floors have been modernised. The railway station sits at the northern end, connecting Bognor to Barnham Junction and the main London to Portsmouth line. Several town centre regeneration schemes have been proposed and partially implemented over the past two decades, with varying degrees of success. The market operates on certain days of the week and draws shoppers from the surrounding area. For everyday shopping, the town centre serves its purpose, with supermarkets, banks, the post office, and a library all within walking distance of the pedestrianised core. The walk from the station to the beach takes around ten minutes, and the route passes through the full length of the shopping precinct, giving the town centre a natural flow of foot traffic that many comparable towns lack.
