Residential area with a Norman parish church, archaeological heritage, and affordable suburban housing between the town centre and Felpham.

South Bersted is a residential area to the south-east of Bognor Regis town centre, lying between the main built-up area and Felpham. Historically a separate village, it was absorbed into the expanding town during the twentieth century but retains traces of its older identity. The area has its own parish church, St Mary Magdalene, which dates in part to the Norman period and sits on a site of much older occupation. Archaeological work in South Bersted has uncovered Iron Age and Roman remains, confirming long human settlement on this stretch of the coastal plain. The housing is predominantly twentieth century, with a mix of inter-war semis, post-war council housing, and later private development on infill sites. Victoria Drive is one of the principal routes through the area, connecting the town centre to the eastern parts of Bognor. The character is suburban and residential, without the resort atmosphere of the seafront or the village feel of Felpham. South Bersted has local shops, a primary school, and a community that functions largely independently of the town centre for day-to-day needs. The area's proximity to both the town centre and Felpham makes it a practical residential location, and housing is generally more affordable than in Aldwick or the seafront zone. The Bersted Brooks nature area provides green space and a corridor of open land linking the built-up area to the countryside that still separates Bognor from the villages inland. South Bersted is a working residential neighbourhood rather than a visitor destination, and it serves that function well, providing family housing within easy reach of schools, shops, and the coast.
