Nyetimber
Quiet residential area on the edge of Pagham Harbour, valued by birdwatchers and walkers for its proximity to the nature reserve.
Nyetimber is a small residential area to the west of Bognor Regis, lying between Rose Green and the tidal mudflats of Pagham Harbour. The name is shared with the well-known English sparkling wine estate, though the vineyard is at West Chiltington in the Weald rather than here on the coastal plain. Nyetimber the neighbourhood is quiet, low-rise, and residential, with housing dating mainly from the mid-twentieth century onwards. The streets are set back from the harbour edge, and the flat, open character of the coastal plain gives the area wide skies and a sense of space that is absent from the more built-up parts of Bognor. Pagham Harbour is the defining natural feature, a tidal inlet that floods and drains with each tide, supporting internationally important populations of wading birds, wildfowl, and coastal plants. The harbour is a local nature reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with strictly managed access to protect the wildlife. Footpaths from Nyetimber provide access to the harbour edge and the shingle spit at Pagham Beach, and the walking is outstanding for birdwatchers, particularly in autumn and winter when migrant species arrive. The RSPB visitor centre at Sidlesham is a short drive to the north. Nyetimber has no shops or pubs of its own, and residents rely on Rose Green, Aldwick, or central Bognor for services and amenities. Property here is a mix of bungalows and houses, generally at moderate prices. The combination of quiet residential streets and a nationally important nature reserve on the doorstep gives Nyetimber an understated appeal to those who know it.
