Flansham
Small eastern residential area between Felpham and the open countryside, with a mix of modern housing and remnants of its agricultural past.
Flansham is a small residential area on the eastern edge of the Bognor Regis built-up area, lying between Felpham and the open countryside towards Yapton and Middleton-on-Sea. The area is centred on Flansham Lane and the surrounding streets, with a handful of farms and older properties mixed in among the twentieth-century housing. Flansham retains traces of its agricultural past in the field patterns and lanes that survive between the housing developments, and the occasional flint wall or farm building adds character to the predominantly modern streetscape. The Flansham Park area to the south provides some green space for the immediate neighbourhood. The A259 runs nearby, giving road access towards Littlehampton to the east and Bognor town centre to the west. Flansham is served by Felpham's schools, shops, and community facilities, and most residents consider themselves part of the wider Felpham area rather than a distinct community. The housing is largely from the 1960s and 1970s, with some later infill, and the occasional older cottage or farmhouse providing a reminder of the rural landscape that preceded the estates. The flat terrain of the coastal plain means the area is fully exposed to the sun that gives Bognor its sunshine reputation, and the open aspect towards the fields to the north provides a sense of space that the denser parts of the town lack. Flansham is a practical, affordable residential area without pretensions, suited to families and commuters who use the nearby road and rail connections to reach workplaces in Chichester, Littlehampton, or further afield along the coast.
